Charles McCue

Charles McCue was a Private in the 6th Royal Berks. He sustained facial injuries on the Somme when a piece of shrapnel hit him - you can just make out the large scar running down the right hand side of his mouth. The scar extended under his chin and around the side of his face. This picture was taken in Co. Donegal in the 1950's and is the only known one of him. His grandaughter recalls...

"I was 9 when he died, but still remember him vividly as just the best 'Granda' any kid could wish for. His stories of WW1 kept us Grandkids glued to our seats for hours, especially those about his meeting with Adolph Hitler. My Grandfather kissed the Blarney Stone - more than once!. Charles is buried in St Kentigerns, Lambhill Cemetery, Balmore Road, Glasgow. I would love to learn more about Charles's life in the Army, along with any Service Records and/or Medical Records which may be able to pinpoint the Hospital he was sent to upon repatriation to the U.K.."
